February 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the New Liskeard Lions Club.

The Lions will be celebrating throughout the year however, our premier celebritory event will be a free dinner event. On May 10, 2025, the New Liskeard Lions will serve up to 400 residents of Temiskaming Shores, a free spaghetti dinner. Due to space constraints, dinner will include two seatings. The first seating will be at 430 p.m. and the second seating at 6 pm. Dinner will be at the Riverside Place and admission will be by ticket. Tickets will be available beginning on April 15 through New Liskeard Lions members. Tickets will specify "1st seating" and "2nd seating". and will only be honoured for the time slot on the ticket.

CJTT-FM has recognized the New Liskeard Lions as Citizen of the Year for their community support rendered during 2023. Lions are pictured receiving the certificate from CJTT at Riverside place on May 2nd 2024.

The New Liskeard Lions Club is made up of a group of citizens from the City of Temiskaming Shores and surrounding area. The Club is open to men and women, 18 years of age and older. Membership is by invitation and requires applicants to be of good character and willing to work in support of our community. Each Lion must be willing to attend monthly, evening meetings, assist in organizing and working o various events, including fundraising and public service events.

Lions are about giving back to your community.

WHAT DO WE DO?

The New Liskeard Lions Club supports many youth oriented events, teams and even individuals. We sponsor and/or donate to the New Liskeard Lions hockey team, the Boy Scouts, lacrosse, various youth camps and much more. The Club raises funds in order to assist people in need of medical equipment which we loan out at no cost to them.

The Club has donated over $88,000.00 to the Temiskaming Hospital and it's Foundation. We sponsor the Lions' Tennis Courts, the skate board park, Lions Park, some public swims at the city pool, Zack's Crib and more. The Club organizes the Santa Claus parade, works the gate for the Fall Fair, and assists in the Biker's Reunion. The Club donates towards the training and purchase of vision guide dogs. We support by way of donations, childhood diabetes research, CNIB, hunger eradication and so much more. Since the inception of our Club, we have donated more than $3,000,000 to the betterment of our community. In 2023, the New Liskeard Lions Club was named as the Citizen of the Year, by CJTT radio station, The Club serves the citizens of our community in many ways, not many of which are ever known outside the Club and the person who is the recipient of that service. The Lions' motto is simple. "We Serve".

Lion David Lowe

New Liskeard Lions Club President David Lowe moved to New Liskeard in 2021 from Barrie, Ontario, after retiring from his position as an Appellate Judge for the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Lion David has lived all across Canada, from Ottawa, to Barrie, Toronto, Bracebridge, Calgary and Inuvik (N.W.T.) Lion David was a member of the Midhurst Lions Club and the Bracebridge Lions Club. Lion David worked at helping to feed the homeless in Barrie, taught basic computer skills to Indigenous youth and elders, assisted in providing backpacks filled with school supplies to school children on various First Nations, and more. Lion David was presented with the Ontario 150 Award, in 2017 in recognition of his public service. Lion David joined the New Liskeard Lions shortly after moving to New Liskeard. He has served as Treasurer and was elected by the Club to the position of President, effective September of 2024. Lion David lives with his wife, Sandra, also a Lion.
